Uniqkey
We believe that while cybersecurity can and should be standardized, the way businesses interact with it must remain seamless and intuitive.
The increasing threat of cyberattacks and data breaches has placed cybersecurity at the forefront of Europe’s digital agenda. Denmark-based Uniqkey was founded with the mission to make small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) more resilient against cyber threats. With rising geopolitical tensions and the EU’s push for digital sovereignty, Uniqkey provides a vital solution to safeguard businesses and protect critical data.
The team
Uniqkey is led by a team of experienced entrepreneurs and cybersecurity experts. CEO and Founder Hakan Yagci started Uniqkey after witnessing firsthand the complexities of implementing secure IT solutions in his previous ventures. Alongside him, CMO Simon Cederstråhle Hellstrøm-Melander has played a key role in shaping Uniqkey’s market strategy and driving growth. The company’s strong leadership and technical expertise have enabled it to expand rapidly, now serving over 500 SMEs across Europe with its advanced security platform.
"Today, everybody has a mobile phone. We’ve made the mobile phone central to Uniqkey’s security solution, which is a big part of why we’re seeing such strong demand. Just as mobile apps revolutionized banking, Uniqkey is transforming secure access to corporate systems - making it easy, fast, and secure," says Hakan Yagci, CEO and Founder of Uniqkey.
Backers’ perspective
EThe cybersecurity landscape is undergoing a major shift, driven by increasing regulatory requirements and rising cybercrime costs. Uniqkey’s approach -combining military-grade encryption with intuitive password management- offers a seamless solution for businesses looking to enhance their IT security. With 81% of cyber breaches caused by weak or stolen passwords, Uniqkey’s technology directly addresses one of the biggest vulnerabilities in modern enterprises.
BackingMinds, alongside industry veterans like Jesper Zerlang (ex-CEO of Logpoint), has invested €5.35M to help Uniqkey scale its technology and expand its reach. With new cybersecurity regulations such as NIS2 and DORA holding business leaders personally responsible for security breaches, Uniqkey is positioned as a key player in Europe’s digital defense strategy.
"Europe’s pursuit of its own technology companies is crucial for maintaining digital independence, ensuring data privacy, and fostering innovation that aligns with European values," says Sara Wimmercranz, Founding Partner at BackingMinds.
As Uniqkey continues its expansion, its goal is to serve thousands of companies across Europe within the next three years, ensuring that SMEs are equipped with the tools they need to stay ahead of evolving cyber threats and regulatory changes.
